And then on to the west...
And up... and up... and up! A nice, comfortable climb through heavy forest
to the viewpoint that heralded the start of the lava fields.
Lava everywhere! And the road twisted through it on up to the summit and
the Dee Wright Observatory. Great views from up there of all the local
mountains. And it was sunny! And clear!!!
Now for a loonnngggg downhill - most of the way into camp. First it was
gentle, then the switchbacks, and then on down and down until we joined
Hwy. 126 (and soon the McKenzie River).

As we followed the river down the wetter climate was obvious -
our weather remained clear and warm, but the vegetation was lush and thick.
We were obviously on the moister side of the Cascade Range.
Finally, we rolled into Coburg. It had been a gorgeous day full of photo-ops
and that night was the closing show at the ODS Main Stage!
