John Day to Mitchell

77.8 miles, Option: 110.1 miles

Ahhh....

A nice, steady downhill almost all of the way into lunch - and superb scenery as we watched the John Day River carve its way deeper and deeper into the earth. Time for a lot more pictures!

And onto lunch at the John Day Fossil Beds. Grass and trees and a beautiful hillside for even more pictures.  

But then it was decision time - should we stick to the main (and shorter route) with its long climb - or should we head off on the option with its long meander along the river and then its three tough, steep climbs as it headed south back to the main route (after an extra 23 miles).

Either way it was both a challenging and beautiful day and everyone was glad to get to camp and dinner!
